Question: “What the heck is drippy sauce?”
Answer: It is simply our pasta sauce. Actually we really call it gravy.
I might have a Lithuanian last name but he grew up very much Italian on his mother’s side. My parents have been making their famous gravy and serving it to hundreds of mouths over the years. Each year while I was in the seminary in Maryland they would travel down with family and friends and provide a big Italian feast for over 200 seminarians and staff. People love the recipe and his parents love cooking it and they have to cook it often because I typically raid their freezers at home to steal it, well “relocate” it.
Having family and friends gather around the table for some good food was always part of my upbringing. When I was assigned to St. Bernard’s I thought that one way to keep the neighborhood youth busy was for them to invest into something profitable, to give them a job. So in 2019 we launched St. Bernard’s “Drippy Sauce” using the recipe of my parents. Under the direction of my dad, the teens learn how to make the sauce from start to finish. The teens who work also are paid for their time so they can be able to purchase what they need. When debating upon the name of the sauce one of the teens that goes by Dmont suggested we call it St. Bernard’s Drippy Sauce. Essentially, in the ever changing lingo of the youth, if you got the drip you got the swag.
We kick off selling the first batch at St. Joseph’s in Charlton in April of 2019 where I will be able to preach about the good news of Christ in relation to the ministry on Lincoln St. The “drippy sauce” sells for $10 a quart with the proceeds directly benefiting the youth of the community. For every 6 we sell that is an hour they get to be in the gym where they don't have to worry about renters taking over.
If you would like more information on how to purchase send us a message or call. If you would like us to show up at an event to sell and help us promote the good works let us know. Gather your family and friends and get around the table and eat some pasta with the drip!
