At St. Bernard's Church we joyfully look toward's the day your child prepares to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Before we get to that moment there is first a significant moment that takes place and that is when we receive the graces that flow from tthe Sacrament of Reconciliation. Your child will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at St. Bernar'd Church before they receive first Holy Communion. There is a period of formation leading up to the retreat and the day that they will confess for the first time. Requirements for children to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Our Lady of Providence Parish are:
1. Your family is registered at St. Bernard's or you have received permission from your pastor to receive the sacrament here.
2. Your child is at least 7 years old.
3. You and your family participate in Mass regularly.
4. You and your family participate in the formation process in the parish unless your child attends a Catholic school in which case you do need to attend all sacramental preparation.
5. Your child knows how to:
a. Make the sign of the cross.
b. Pray the Lord’s Prayer (the Our Father)
c. Pray the Hail Mary
6. Your child knows the difference between right and wrong.
7. Your child knows how to pray the Act of Contrition.
